Freewheeling Trike Seats Take Off At 75th Anniversary

MMP15_Sturgis_Freewheeler_3Best rally ever? All indications are that the 75 Anniversary of the Sturgis Rally was a success. The record crowds were no shock, however the interest in Mustang’s latest seat for Harley-Davidson’s FLRT Freewheeler™ three-wheeler was a pleasant surprise. “We just wanted to show off the new Freewheeler seat, but had not anticipated the amount of interest it was going to generate,” admits Mustang Seats’ Rallymeister John Glynn. He attributes a more mature demographic, the fact that the riders are staying in the saddle longer than ever before and the sheer number of people at Sturgis to Mustang’s successful launch of the new trike seat. “Plus it is a damn good seat!”

Traffic at both Mustang’s locations in the Black Hills was up considerably compared to last year. “It took 20 minutes just to get across the street to Mustang’s location on Lazelle Street and foot traffic at our big rig was up by at least 70%,” he adds. “The star of the show really was our three-wheeler seat at both locations.” According to South Dakota DOT traffic entering the city of Sturgis was up… substantially.

“Traffic for the 2015 Official Rally Dates was up 30.7% from 2014. 2014 Traffic entering Sturgis at the 8 locations was 390,693. Traffic entering for 2015 at the 8 locations was 510,749. That is just the city of Sturgis and doesn’t take into account folks at The Legendary Buffalo Chip, Deadwood, Spearfish and Rapid City (with a very large concentration of vendors working at Black Hills Harley-Davidson). In addition, the South Dakota DOT does traffic counts only for the official dates of the rally, from Monday to Sunday. The methodology used to count traffic is based on portable road tube counters recording one vehicle for every 2 axles that hit the road tube. Counters and road tubes are checked daily during the week to ensure everything is counting correctly. Data is collected every Monday and Thursday. Taking traffic counts began with the 50th Rally in 1990.

MMP15_Sturgis_Freewheeler_4While the traffic count was no surprise, the hit of the show for Mustang was… Our new replacement seats for the Freewheeler™ were stopping traffic at the Rally Rig at Black Hills Harley. “The comfort level is second to none while the clean look and feel of the expanded vinyl cover and detailed automotive-inspired stitching has to be experienced first-hand,” adds John. With Mustang’s marine-grade fiberglass pan and all-day-comfort foam supporting the rider in the ideal cruising posture, racking up the miles to Sturgis or wherever your road trips may take you are no problem.

“With a Mustang seat, you can ride your Freewheeler™ all day, every day,” claims Glynn. Features a front bucket drain hole, matching fully-adjustable driver backrest and built-in driver backrest receiver (note, this will not work with a frame-mounted backrest kit). In addition to the standard seating position, Mustang offers a “forward” version, the Forward Touring which moves the rider 2″ forward on the motorcycle for easier steering, something to take into account on a trike.

“Our seats are preferred by motorcycle riders who want comfort, quality and style from a company that firmly stands behind their products,” John says. “Whether it is two wheels or three, Mustang continues to earn its wings with every ride!”

Perewitz Signature Series Seats Sign In At Sturgis!

1 Aug

Limited Edition Posters Of The Legend Himself

MMP14_FB-Sturgis-Perewitz--v2

To help launch the Perewitz Signature Series seats in Sturgis, bike building legend Dave Perewitz will be signing limited edition posters exclusively at the Mustang displays during the rally. Designed by Dave, made by Mustang, the name really does mean something! Everything we know went into making these seats before the Perewitz name was put on it!

So who is the man behind the mythological “Perewitz” name? Dave Perewitz built his first bike back in 1973 and his Cycle Fab shop quickly gained a reputation. Since then, his artistry and skills have earned the Perewitz name a global recognition, particularly for Harley baggers (or “Baggas” as Dave says with his distinctive Massachusetts accent).

Dave and the team at Mustang worked closely together to create the Signature Series, comprised of one solo seat and four new Fastback styles. In addition to the Solo seat introduced in our 2014 catalog (see pages 36-37), we now have Perewitz Signature seats for most Harley-Davidson® FL models from 1997 and up, in addition to 2006-10 FXST models.

MMP_Perewitz-n-bikeSee the full range of Perewitz Signature Seats in Sturgis, as well as our replacement seats for the all-new Indian motorcycles and the instruction of our retro metal flake inserts. From 12-2 p.m. on August 4th, Dave will be signing these posters at the Mustang big rig located at Black Hills Harley-Davidson. On August 5, he heads over to the Mustang display at J&P Cycles on Lazelle Street, again from 12-2p.m.

If you can’t make it to Black Hills in time to have Perewitz personally sign your seat and grab a poster, you can still download your digital Perewitz wallpaper poster version and also check out the line of Signature Series Seats at:

Retro Metal Flake Seats Shine At Sturgis!

25 Jul

MMP14_LB_Sturgis Retro-v1There may be nothing new under the sun as the pundits claim, but that is exactly where the latest seats from Mustang look their best! We are introducing a galaxy of metal flake seats to match the retro color schemes found on the Harley-Davidson Hard Candy Custom™ models. Next week during the Sturgis Rally, Black Hills Harley-Davidson will be the center of the universe for Mustang’s newest custom seat option — Rally goers will see everything from “Deep Space Blue” to “Vortex Green” and even a special surprise retro color scheme!

MMP72_72greenFlake1[1]Part of the extensive custom seat program we introduced last fall, customer demand for metal flake has added even more options when it comes to creating your own seat. Our selection of different stitch patterns, thread colors and now metal flake inserts to choose from makes it possible for anyone to create a truly one-of-a-kind seat.

MMP14_CustomCandy 2Of course Mustang’s staff claims they are all too young to remember when metal flake was first popular, but Mustang is old school. In fact, we have been manufacturing the world’s most comfortable motorcycle seats in our historic New England factory since 1984. With countless combinations of stitching options, 12 contrasting thread colors and now 8 metal flake panels, our custom seat option is available for three of our most popular seat sales for starters: Tripper™ Solo, Tripper Fastback™ and DayTripper™ — but more seats and colors are coming.

Seeing is believing, but these out of this world colors have to be seen in the light of day rather than on a computer screen to really do them justice. We wanted something really special to share with our friends from Black Hills Harley, since they have been such great hosts during the Sturgis Rally. This will be the first place to see the rainbow of retro metal flake colors actually sewn into the seats and mounted on a motorcycle.

Check them out at http://www.mustangseats.com/custom/75625 — but you will have to stop by the Mustang truck at Black Hills Harley-Davidson to see the exclusive unveiling of their “Cosmic Purple” colorway and some other surprises during the Sturgis Rally.
