Mustang Makes Replacement Seats For Scouts!

IndianBeersmSomething has been brewing around Mustang Seats for months. But we kept the news bottled up until recently. You may have noticed a series of social media posts featuring historic Indian motorcycles shot in a local museum and cryptic hints to “scout around” for more clues. The Facebook hints finally came to a head with the official announcement that Mustang now has seats for the new Indian Scout. Not just one seat, either… several seat styles and both black and brown colorways. Hopefully this makes the suspense worth the wait.

However, we didn’t want to make an announcement until we were sure that we had everything right. After all, the birthplace of Indian Motocycles is in Springfield, Massachusetts, less than 30 minutes from Mustang’s historic factory in Three Rivers, so we have always had a soft spot for the brand around here. As much as Mustang may have wanted to be first to market with a seat for the new Scout, we would not comprise on what went into the seat before the Mustang name went on it!

MMP15_Scout_tan_34viewIndian Motorcycle’s new Scout combines classic styling cues from the 1920s with modern day refinements and performance upgrades. Mustang’s new line of seats and related accessories for the Scout follow this “best of both worlds” philosophy. This allows you to combine the latest in comfort with the look of yesteryear. Whether you opt for an all-day comfort two-up or flying solo for short hops,  Mustang now has Indian Scout riders sitting pretty. A choice of a Touring seat or our low and lean RunAround™ cater to to completely different types of riders.

MMP15_Scout_blksolo_floater1Our Touring solo and passenger seats offer you and your companion support and comfort for the entire journey. The Touring seats feature Mustang’s medium-density foam, precisely molded to the shapes and angles needed for optimal cruising comfort combined with our durable steel-reinforced, marine-grade fiberglass baseplates. The 13″ wide solo and 8.5″ wide passenger seat provide ample room for both the pilot and passenger without compromising the clean lines of the bike.

While you can’t judge a book by its cover, Mustang’s seat covers are pretty telling as to the over all quality that goes into the Scout saddles. The cover designs are brand-new concepts developed by our designers just for the Scout. Available in classic black or the new Indian brown vinyl, a distinctive two-tone pattern complements the look of the motorcycle. The distinctive center stripe ties the solo, passenger seat and the mini driver backrest (developed specifically for the Scout) together visually.

MMP15_Scout_Tansolo_floater1But even bigger news is the fact that Mustang now offers leather panels exclusively for the Scout Touring solo seats. We heard plenty of requests for both brown and for real leather seats when we asked Indian owners what they might want in a replacement seat. The market has spoken, and Mustang has delivered.

For riders preferring to cruise closer to home, we suggest the RunAround for bar-hopper style bikes. Mustang’s engineers developed this 9.5″ wide solo to be low, lean and mean as possible so you will look classy and cool all around town. The vinyl cover features distinctive styling and is also available in black or brown. Whatever your style, Mustang has an option for your Scout that will let you show off the look and go the extra mile…. Cheers!

Sons Of Anarchy Signs Off

SOA1

Marj from Mustang Seats road crew with Tommy Flanagan from Sons of Anarchy at the Las Vegas BikeFest.

Love it or hate it, there is no question Sons Of Anarchy influenced the American motorcycle market like nothing else since Orange County Chopper’s TV heyday. While Mustang never made a seat for the show, we have seen the influence of the anarchists… um, mythical SAMCRO bikers. Mustang’s road crew even hung out with some of the cast at the Las Vegas Bikefest this fall.

BurnoutAlthough some industry folks eventually “burned out” on the SOA phenomenon, the majority of fans watched all seven seasons. In fact, the last episode which recently aired received the greatest number of viewers in the show’s entire run. While we never adapted SOA-style uniform, we will admit one of our guilty pleasures was watching the show each week.

76869_app_hd-smThis bad boy mentality also resulted in Mustang introducing our leanest and meanest seat ever for Harley-Davidson® Dyna and FL models. For 35 years we have prided ourselves on offering seats that were based on our three pillars: clean. class. comfort. While the new RunAround™ is still proudly made in the USA, and doesn’t sacrifice Mustang’s legendary reputation for quality, it is definitely not a touring seat in terms of all-day comfort!

Marj is ready to throw down with Mark Boone Junior from Sons of Anarchy at the Las Vegas BikeFest!

That didn’t seem to stop demand from Softail riders wanted this seat. After watching the last season of SOA, our R&D team went back to the drawing board and engineered the lowest solo seat possible for 2000-2015 Harley® standard rear tire Softails. (Actually fitments for FLSTS 2000-2003, FLSTN 2005-up, FLSTSC 2006-2007 and FLSTC 2007-up were plotted on the CAD-CAM machine,, not drawn on graph paper but you get the idea). For good measure, they added most of the other 2000-2006 Softails to the mix, including FLST 2006, FLSTC 2000-2006, FLSTF 2000-2006, FLSTSC 2005, FXST 2000-2005, FXSTB 2000-2005 and FXSTS 2000-2005.

Our combination of New England craftsmanship combined with 21st Century engineering means your RunAround™ seat gives your bike plenty of attitude without being too much of a pain in the ass. Our controlled density polyurethane foam can be poured a little thinner without compromising the comfort, but making for a much thinner seat pad in the process.

Made in-house at Mustang’s historic Three Rivers, MA facility, the exact angle and density of each seat foam panel is formulated and cast to be soft enough for comfort, but resilient enough to retain its shape and structural integrity for years. While Sons Of Anarchy has been relegated to the world of re-runs bikers looking for a bad ass seat need look no further than:

RUNNING AROUND DELMARVA BIKE WEEK WITH MUSTANG’S NEW RUNAROUND™

11 Sep

MMP14_FB-delmarva-v1

Since when has getting the run around felt this good? Since Mustang Seats decided to roll out our new RunAround™ seat at DelMarVa Bike Week festivities. This is the lowest, leanest seat we make for Harley-Davidson® Dyna and FL models — perfect for styling and profiling. Instead of being a bad thing, this version of the the RunAround™ represents a bold look at motorcycle seating without sacrificing Mustang’s legendary reputation for quality.

Our old school New England craftsmanship combined with 21st century design means this seat looks as incredible as it feels. Proudly made in the USA, this seat takes everything we have learned about saddle design since 1980 and incorporates technological advancements in the materials and manufacturing process. In an interesting dichotomy, this seat started in our state-of-the-art CAD-CAM center as R&D plotted the RunAround™ from scratch, then transitioned to our expert team of sewers and seat makers to get that hands-on touch!

76866_app_hd-smAs with all our seats, everything starts with a well-designed baseplate. The narrow front width of just 9.5” for the Dyna (10.5” for FL applications) combined with the ultra low profile keeps the rider positioned properly while still sitting closer to terra firma than the stock seat allows for. However due to Mustang’s seat pan design and our proprietary foam, running around doesn’t have to be a pain in the posterior.

76869_hd-smMade in-house at our historic Three Rivers, MA facility, the controlled density polyurethane foam can be poured a little thinner without compromising the comfort, but making for a much thinner seat pad in the process. The exact angle and density of each seat foam panel is formulated and cast to be soft enough for comfort, but resilient enough to retain its shape and structural integrity for years.

After passing Mustang’s own exacting standards, the low-slung seat was rolled out for riders at DelMarVa Bike Week for the first time. This is the one time where Mustang has actually been happy to give our customers the RunAround™  — so far initial reports from Rallymeister John Glynn have been overwhelmingly positive!
